Juläine® (also written Julaine) is a poly-L-lactic acid collagen biostimulator developed and manufactured in Sweden by Nordberg Medical. It is CE-marked under the EU Medical Device Regulation and launched in Indonesia on 29 August 2026. SŌMA Aesthetics and Longevity Club in Uluwatu is the first clinic in Bali to offer it, after Dr Revaniar Poetri Calvan trained with the Juläine team at the Jakarta launch. The treatment costs IDR 25,000,000 per vial plus 11% tax, is administered only by the clinic's doctors, and works gradually, building the patient's own collagen over months rather than adding volume on the day.
How Juläine came to Bali
Nordberg Medical launched Juläine in Indonesia on 29 August 2026 at The Langham in Jakarta, following approval for use in the country. Dr Revaniar Poetri Calvan, SŌMA's dermatology, venereology and aesthetics specialist, attended on behalf of the clinic and completed the product training with the Juläine team, covering reconstitution, injection technique and aftercare. SŌMA began offering Juläine in Uluwatu in September 2026.
That brings the clinic's collagen biostimulator menu to four products: Juläine, Sculptra, Radiesse and Juvelook. Four products with different characteristics allow the doctor to match the product to the face rather than the reverse. All four are described on the collagen biostimulators page.
What Juläine is
Juläine is a PLLA-based biostimulator. Where a hyaluronic acid filler adds volume that is visible the same day, Juläine is designed, in Nordberg Medical's words, "to regenerate your body's own collagen, to smoothen wrinkles and tighten the skin".
The active ingredient is poly-L-lactic acid, a biodegradable polymer used in medicine for decades, formulated here as smooth, spherical microspheres with Nordberg's LASYNPRO technology (Lactic Acid Induced Synthesis of Collagen Protein). The microspheres act as both scaffold and signal: as they slowly break down into lactic acid, the surrounding fibroblasts are stimulated to produce new collagen and elastin.
On the regulatory side, Juläine is CE-marked under EU MDR 2017/745, manufactured under ISO 13485:2016 and approved in more than 35 countries. The CE-marked indication is correction of shallow to deep nasolabial folds; treatment of other areas of the face is a matter of physician judgement and training. It is developed and manufactured in Sweden (Nordberg Medical).
How PLLA builds collagen, and why it takes months
PLLA has been used as an injectable biostimulator for more than twenty years, so its behaviour is well characterised. After injection the microspheres sit in the deep dermis or the subcutaneous plane and provoke a controlled, low-grade tissue response. Fibroblasts lay down new type I and type III collagen around each particle. Over the following months the particles are broken down and cleared, and the collagen remains. A 2025 expert review of injectable PLLA in the journal Cosmetics describes this sequence, notes that collagen deposition continues for 8 to 24 months, that results are best after multiple treatments, and that biopsies at 30 months still show new collagen after the microparticles have gone (Cosmetics, 2025). The facial protocols in that review use two to three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart.
Biostimulators therefore reward patience. The result at six months is better than the result at one week, and the change tends to read as rested rather than treated.

Per-vial prices do not compare directly. The amount of product, the dilution and the number of sessions differ by brand, so the treating doctor quotes the full protocol for the individual face. Prices are on the collagen biostimulators page and the full price list.
Who Juläine suits
Juläine suits patients who want gradual, natural-looking rejuvenation rather than immediate volume, and who prefer to avoid an overfilled appearance. That usually means early volume loss or softening in the cheeks, temples, jawline and lower face, or skin that has lost firmness. Most patients asking about it are over 35, thinking about skin quality in the long term and prepared to wait months for the full effect. Some have had Sculptra before and want to continue building collagen with a doctor trained on more than one product.
It is not appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding, over active skin infection, or for patients with a history of keloid scarring or certain autoimmune conditions. All of this is screened at the consultation.
What to expect at SŌMA
Treatment begins with a doctor's consultation: an assessment of volume loss, skin quality and laxity, a discussion of Juläine against the other biostimulators or a hyaluronic acid filler, and a written plan with the total price including tax. Before anything is opened the patient is shown the sealed vial, with brand, batch number and expiry date, as with every injectable at the clinic.
The vial is then reconstituted and diluted according to Nordberg Medical's protocol (the doctor explains what is used for comfort) and injected by the doctor in the planes appropriate to the area. The appointment takes about 45 minutes. Aftercare is a massage routine following the manufacturer's protocol, explained and written down for the patient; PLLA products commonly use five minutes, five times a day, for five days. Mild swelling or bruising for a few days is expected. There is no restriction on flying. Follow-up sessions are scheduled a few weeks apart as planned, with reviews at three and six months.
Questions patients ask about Juläine
What is Juläine?
A poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) collagen biostimulator developed and manufactured in Sweden by Nordberg Medical, using the company's LASYNPRO microsphere technology. It is CE-marked under the EU Medical Device Regulation and registered in more than 35 countries, including Indonesia since 2026. The name is also written Julaine.
Is SŌMA the first clinic in Bali to offer Juläine?
Yes. Juläine launched in Indonesia on 29 August 2026 in Jakarta. Dr Revaniar Poetri Calvan attended the launch and trained with the Juläine team, and SŌMA began offering the treatment in Uluwatu in September 2026, ahead of any other clinic in Bali.
How is Juläine different from Sculptra?
Both are PLLA biostimulators that prompt the patient's own fibroblasts to produce collagen. They differ in microsphere design, reconstitution and injection protocol, and in manufacturer: Juläine is Swedish, from Nordberg Medical; Sculptra is made by Galderma. The treating doctor recommends one on the basis of the area, the patient's skin and the protocol the patient can realistically follow.
How many sessions are needed, and when do results appear?
PLLA biostimulators are usually given as two to three sessions four to six weeks apart; the Indonesian launch guidance for Juläine describes three. Collagen builds gradually, so results are measured in months rather than days. The PLLA literature reports collagen deposition continuing for 8 to 24 months, well beyond the life of a hyaluronic acid filler.
Are there risks?
As with any PLLA product, small nodules can occur if the product is not properly reconstituted, diluted, placed and massaged afterwards. The risk is technique-dependent: with modern dilution protocols the reported nodule rate for PLLA is around 0.4 per cent, against 5 to 7 per cent with the older, more concentrated protocols. For that reason Juläine at SŌMA is injected only by doctors trained on the product, and aftercare instructions are followed closely. Bruising and swelling for a few days are the usual side effects.
How much does Juläine cost in Bali?
IDR 25,000,000 per vial at SŌMA, plus 11% government tax. The number of vials and sessions depends on the area and the patient's goals, and is confirmed at the consultation.
